The eyes are not only windows to vision—they are also reflections of our emotions.
The K5 system provides a comprehensive assessment of tear film stability, tear secretion, and tear break-up time, making it an essential tool for diagnosing dry eye disease.
Combined with a professional evaluation by our physicians, it allows us to tailor treatment plans for symptoms such as foreign body sensation, dryness, burning, and screen-related eye fatigue—addressing discomfort at its root.
📍 Keratograph® 5M (K5) — A high-precision tear film analyzer from Germany, and the starting point of accurate dry eye diagnosis.
“Are my eyes too dry? But why do they still tear sometimes?”
Dry eye disease is complex because symptoms can differ widely from person to person.
At OU Oculoplastic Clinic, we use the OCULUS Keratograph® 5M to analyze tear film stability and meibomian gland function.
Equipped with high-definition imaging and infrared scanning, this non-invasive device performs multiple evaluations, including:
• NIBUT — Non-invasive tear break-up time
• TMH — Tear meniscus height
• Assessment of lipid layer thickness and distribution
• Evaluation of incomplete eyelid closure
• Meibography for meibomian gland structure (MGD screening)
These objective measurements help determine the severity and type of dry eye (aqueous-deficient, evaporative, or mixed), and guide the most appropriate treatment plan.
Examination Time: approximately 10 minutes
Method: non-contact, painless, and free of irritation
At OU, we believe that “eye problems cannot be understood at a glance.”
Only through precise, objective data can we provide treatment solutions that truly reassure and benefit our patients.
