Double Eyelid Surgery
2025.09.04
As aesthetic procedures continue to advance, double eyelid surgery remains one of the most popular treatments. Beyond achieving a pleasing appearance, many people seek natural, bright, and expressive eyes.
There are two main techniques for creating double eyelids: incisional and suture methods. What’s the difference? And how do you decide which one is right for you? Let’s explore the details with Dr. Liu.
Suture Double Eyelid Surgery

The suture method involves creating tiny entry points on the eyelid and using non-absorbable sutures to form the eyelid crease.
Because the incisions are minimal and bleeding is limited, recovery is relatively quick—most people resume daily activities within about a week.Since this technique preserves the native eyelid structures, the results often appear soft and natural. It is generally recommended for younger patients or those with thin eyelid tissues.
However, the crease created with sutures may fade over time due to loosening of the sutures, tissue changes, or aging.
Incisional Double Eyelid Surgery

The incisional method involves making an incision along the eyelid, allowing the surgeon to remove excess skin or orbital fat before creating a stable crease.
By reshaping the eyelid structure, this approach produces a more defined and long-lasting result. It is suitable for individuals with thicker or looser eyelids, excess fat, or concerns such as puffy eyes or drooping skin.
This method is considered more “permanent”; however, because the incision is larger, the recovery period is longer and early postoperative swelling or visible scarring may be more noticeable compared to the suture technique.
Professional Evaluation Matters

After understanding these differences, you may wonder: Which method is best for me?
The ideal approach can only be determined through a consultation with a qualified oculoplastic surgeon.
By assessing your eyelid anatomy, desired outcome, potential risks, and recovery expectations, your surgeon can design a customized surgical plan that ensures both safety and results—helping you achieve naturally beautiful, confident eyes.
